Mamawi high school students Alias Mykat and Kenyon Bull put their school and Maskwacis in the spotlight in a global competition that was livestreamed on January 13. At the Zayed Sustainability Prize awards ceremony in Abu Dahbi, they were awarded $150,000 to make the school proposed hydroponic garden a reality, beating two other finalists in the High Schools-America’s category. The competition attracted more than 7,700 applications.

The Zayad Sustainability Prize and award ceremony celebrates the best ideas for a sustainable future. As the only North American finalists in their category, Mykat and Bull represented all North America high school youth as well as Mamawi and Maskwacis. A video highlighting MANS and its connection to the Maskwacis community will be shown on the Zayed Sustainability Awards website in the coming months.
